My Adorable New Furphew Levi!!

I have a new furphew (Dog Nephew)!!

Like me and many of us, my Sister is an animal lover. She’s had dogs for eons now. She tends to favor pugs, but she loves all dogs. She currently has a fawn Pug named Dafney.  Dafney is going to be 12 very soon and she was recently diagnosed with Diabetes. My sister gives her the shots she needs twice a day and bought stuff to help with the diabetic itch etc. That’s what you do for your babies right?  She also has a large Mixed Breed named Dellmar. I wrote about him and posted pictures of him in my post about how I got my dog Zoey.

Anyway… last year my Sister lost her other Pug Phinnaeus to a neurological illness. It was a tough loss… he was such a sweetheart! After awhile, she decided she wanted to get a dog for Dellmar to be able to play with. Dafney is too old to play and she is too cranky to be bothered. LOL. So she would look at the Pet Finder websites and the local humane shelter. She eyed a few adoptees online and I would try and talk her out of it. The real reason I did was because she has always been saying she wants to get more pugs… and the dogs she wanted were not pugs. It was her being spontaneous and I just thought she should really think about it.

Yesterday (9/18/2015) she woke up early and out of the blue decided to head to the local humane shelter. She looked at all the dogs and nothing really hit her. They were mostly big dogs and she didn’t want to get anything too big. There in the very last cage was a pug! A 7 year old male fawn pug and he just grabbed her heart.  Our local humane shelter is excellent!! They take amazing care of the animals and they made my sister fill out an extensive application. They had 5 applications in already for that one little pug boy.

The difference between my sisters application and the others, was that she filled out every speck on the application and when they saw that she already owned a pug, and a diabetic one at that they knew she would give the dog a good home. They called my sisters vet to ensure that she maintained her animals and took care of their health, which of course she does.  Trust me folks… her dogs are loved beyond and spoiled.

This boy was in tough shape… a little too skinny and had a very bad (tho taken care of by the shelter) flea problem. He has patches of fur missing from the fleas, but they have him under control and medicated.  So my sister was beyond thrilled that she was approved to take him home the next morning.

I went to my sisters house so I can help with the process of introducing a new baby into the family. Dellmar was not pleased at all. Dafney was fine… she didn’t care at all. LOL… but Dellmar was growling and upset. This set both of us into worry.  If Dellmar didn’t chill out… what then?

Google research led me to an ASPCA website with tips on how to introduce a new pet into the home. The KEY was to keep both animals on a leash with 2 separate people and have them sniff eachother out in NEUTRAL territory.  Well my sister tried it outside in the driveway, but it didn’t work. Dellmar was not having it. So we went to the local park. I took the new boy and she took Dellmar. SUCCESS!!! They sniffed each other, they got close with no incident… more sniffing and that was that. We headed back to the house, took them both off their leashes and no further incidents.

So I have an adorable new nephew and he has a great new home. I want to make sure I mention that Levi was clearly very loved and spoiled in his previous home. You can just tell by how loving and affectionate he is. It appears that his medical bills were just too much for his previous family to handle. Huge respect to them for surrendering him in hopes he would find a new loving family, and he has. I give them so much credit for their sacrifice, it couldn’t have been easy.

Levi

A Very Happy,
Auntie Jaided
